There’s a reason why ‘Sound Awake’ has been certified gold in Aussie and that’s because this album simply kicks ass! If you dig progressive bands like TOOL, MASTODON etc then you’ll be wanting to listen to this. To me ‘Sound Awake’ comes across as being the result of a band writing music with the ultimate creative freedom. All of the tracks, even the singles are simply epic both in construction and musicianship. Oh yeah, and also in length too with ‘Deadman’ and ‘Change’ well exceeding the 10 minute mark! I wouldn’t know where to go with this review if I was going to dissect everything track by track so here’s a just a few of my picks… we’ll first of all I’m totally loving the bass intro to the first song ‘Simple Boy’ which, with it’s chunky yet perfectly polished bass riffage sounds awesome! I’m also really digging ‘Umbra’ which boasts some amazing displays of musical ambiance over it’s 7:51 minute duration! But like I said there’s so much going on with this recording so basically, if you’re into Progressive Heavy Rock and hearing something like 1000 moods of music over the course of an album then you’ve got to check this out!
